Great Help for the SATs!

Review by Debbie Becker, 2010-07-19

As the mother of a high school student taking the SATs this book has been a huge help! My daughter learned so much more about taking the test than she did from the "official" training materials that her score improved hugely when she re-took the test. The material is great and presented in a humorous (and memorable way). Lots of tips on test-taking!

I'd recommend this book to any student who needs a boost in those SAT scores!

What this book is good for: Pros and Cons

Review by NAK, 2010-07-18

So here's the thing - half the reviewers of this book actually went to the class.
Here's another thing - I think they're influenced more by the classes than the book itself.

I'm solely providing a review for this book.

Pros: Helpful Latin Section (If you have time to remember them)
Great tips on remembering Vocabulary
Interesting examples of essays to improve writing.
Special Note: Some of the reviews here actually state the fact that they barely used this book, complimenting the vocabulary section.

Cons: Very low-defined math section - good practice questions, but poor format.
OLD format of book - it states the NEW SAT after 2003 (seven years ago) would contain trigonometry.

I do not understand why no one stated this fact in the book. Maybe it was a technique to solve SAT questions, but I am certain that there are no problems that need to solved using Cosine, Sine, and Tangent.

That was just a problem I had with this book, making me rate it three stars.

Great Book for raising SAT scores

Review by M. Dade, 2010-04-22

I really recommend this book for preparing your child or student for the SAT exam. This book provided my daughter excellent tools and study guidance and focus needed in preparation for the SAT. The author, Marcy Manning, also offers a course in the DC/VA area which my daughter attended. My daugther was nervous before the first class, afterward when we picked her up she told us that the time seemed to fly by and she learned so much in just one session. My daughter also stated that Ms. Manning provided such a relaxed and comforting environment while instructing the sessions that it inspired and motivated her to study, work hard and succeed. I highly recommend the Boot Camp classes. Ms. Manning combines skill and professionalism with genuine care and concern for each student she works with and her encouragment and support continues long after that SAT early early morning exam. By the way my daughter's scores climbed over 100 points after completing the camp. Highly recommend the book and the Boot Camp.

This book is the best study guide out there!

This book is the best study guide out there. I would highly recommend getting it and studying it carefully.

How many Virginians reviewed this title?

Review by D. Crozier, 2010-04-11

In reading through these reviews while researching SAT prep books for my son, I noticed an amazing number of 5 star reviews for this book come from readers in Virginia, which just happens to be the author's home state. By my count, of 75 reviewers who list their location, a full 70 of them are from Virginia or D.C.

Many of the reviewers even use the same style wording such as "raised my (or my child's) score by x points". If you read reviews of other SAT Prep books, you won't find this language to be all that common.

I have to wonder what is going on. Are people reviewing the book or the class here?

If the book itself was really that good, I have to believe that we would find the reviews to be more geographically random.
